CAUSES

  • Trauma

SYMPTOMS

  • Pain
  • Bruising
  • Deformity
  • Lack of shoulder function

PREOP

  • X-ray
  • 3D CT scan, evaluate fracture pattern and severity

RECOVERY

  • 10 days suture removal
  • 4 weeks sling
  • 4-6 months physical therapy 2 x per week.
  • Expectation is good range of motion and minimal to no pain with return to full activity

TECHNIQUE

The shoulder is fixed with a special plate and screws designed specifically for the proximal humerus

DAY OF SURGERY

  • Nerve block anesthesia
  • 2 hour surgery
  • Outpatient or one night stay

WHEN TO HAVE SURGERY?

  • Fracture displacement necessitates surgery for shoulder function
  • Proximal Humerus Fracture Before Surgery
