CAUSES
- Severe Shoulder Trauma
SYMPTOMS
- Pain
- Bruising
- Deformity
- Lack of shoulder function
PREOP
- X-ray
- 3D CT scan, evaluate fracture pattern and severity
RECOVERY
- 10 days suture removal
- 4 weeks sling
- 4-6 months physical therapy 2 x per week.
- Expectation is decent range of motion and minimal to no pain with return to most activities
TECHNIQUE
The shoulder is replaced with a reverse shoulder replacement because the damage to the bone and rotator cuff is so severe.
DAY OF SURGERY
- Nerve block anesthesia
- 2 hour surgery
- One night stay in hospital
WHEN TO HAVE SURGERY?
- Fracture displacement necessitates surgery for shoulder function
COMPLICATIONS
- 5%
- Mobility problems, reoperation
